Purpose The purpose of the Personal Information Protection and Disclosure Policy is to establish rules for how The Rimrock Resort Hotel collects, uses and discloses personal information about its employees. The contents of this policy are based on the Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA).   Personal Information Personal information is information that can identify an individual or is about an individual. Information that may identify an individual includes: <ul><li>Name, address, email and telephone number</li><li>Banking Information or Social Insurance Number</li><li>Visual Images</li><li>Age, date of birth, birthplace</li><li>Weight, height, gender</li><li>Marital status, race, ethnic origin, citizenship, religion</li><li>Educational, employment, criminal or medical history</li><li>Income, financial history, purchases and spending habits</li></ul>Personal information is not limited to factual information about an individual. Subjective information such as an opinion, evaluation or comment is protected under PIPA. Such information is considered to be that individual's personal information unless subjective information is about another individual.   The Rimrock Resort Hotel reserves the right to collect personal information from potential, current and former employees for the purpose of:  <ul><li>Establishing, managing or terminating an employment relationship</li></ul>Storage Any or all the above information is stored in a secure and confidential human resources file, payroll file, or database.    AccessAny employee of The Rimrock Resort Hotel has the right to request access to their personal human resources file under the supervision of a Human Resources team member. The Rimrock Resort Hotel reserves the right to refuse access where personal information about another individual would be revealed. The right to access is not an absolute right. Disclosure with Consent The Rimrock Resort Hotel will not disclose any personal information to any party without written authorization from that individual. This includes reference checks, referrals, earning verifications, employment history verifications and any other non-government third party seeking personal information about an individual. Disclosure without Consent The Rimrock does not require consent to disclose personal information to a statute of Alberta or Canada, a regulation of Alberta or Canada, a bylaw or local government body or a legislative instrument of a professional regulatory organization. Examples of disclosure without consent include providing personal information to Service Canada, The Canadian Revenue Agency or for the purpose of a court ordered garnishment. Privacy OfficerAccording to PIPA, every organization must have a designated Privacy Officer. The Rimrock Resort Hotel's Privacy Officer is our Manager of Human Resources. The Privacy Officer is responsible for encouraging compliance with the Personal Information Protection Act, responding to request for access and investigating breaches of the Personal Information Protection Act. It is the responsibility of every employee who handles personal information to be familiar with the protection of privacy principles and the objectives of PIPA.
